【Report】UNESCO Chair Summer School 2025 has successfully ended

From Thursday, September 11 to Friday, September 19, 2025 (excluding weekends and public holidays), Ritsumeikan University’s UNESCO Chair on “Cultural Heritage and Risk Management” held a Summer School program.

This Summer School was the first training session held as an extracurricular academic internship program, targeting undergraduate students of Ritsumeikan University.
During the first half of the program (September 11–16), participants engaged in site visits within Kyoto City and acquired foundational knowledge. In the second half (September 17–19), a three-day, two-night training was conducted in Tatsuno City, Hyogo Prefecture.
In Tatsuno City, students developed ideas for disaster prevention town planning in the Tatsuno Traditional Buildings Preservation District and presented their proposals on the final day. The presentations were attended by members of local neighborhood associations and municipal officials.
A total of 16 undergraduate students from the College of Science and Engineering, College of Letters, and College of Policy Science at Ritsumeikan University participated in the Summer School. Additionally, 11 graduate students from our research institute supported the program through group work and other activities.

This was the first attempt at such a program under the UNESCO Chair initiative, and we successfully completed all scheduled activities. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who participated and supported the event.
Based on feedback, we aim to further improve the program for future editions.
