On-site Surveys Carried Out into Water Resource Use in the Event of Disaster
In June 2009, the Research Center for Disaster Mitigation of Urban Cultural Heritage concluded a collaborative disaster prevention research and investigation agreement with Kami-Takano school district, Sakyo-ku, in Kyoto. As part of this research agreement, it was agreed that in accordance with the long-held strong wish of local residents consideration should be given to the possibilities of use of water resources in the event of a large-scale natural disaster, and in cooperation with local residents an investigation was carried out into the water resources it may be possible to use as drinking water in such an event. In the coming months surveys of water quality will be carried out with the cooperation of local residents, water sources safe to use designated, and consideration given to appropriate methods of connection as well as effective dissemination of information on such matters.
