Symposium on Disaster Mitigation of Cultural Heritage and Historical Cities, Sendai

Some topics which have been researched at the Institute of Disaster Mitigation for Urban Cultural Heritage, Ritsumeikan University (R-DMUCH) will be discussed with local researchers and activists. 1.Restoration of Minami Sanriku-Cho, 2.Geographic distributions of cultural heritages which suffered damage from the Great East Japan Earthquake, and 3.Local cultural heritage such as shrines and temples utilized as temporary evacuation bases form the tsunami disaster. In addition, 4.Restoration from earthquake in India will be introduced as a case for international comparative study.
This symposium aims to make the public aware of the importance of preservation and inheritance of cultural heritages from disasters by focusing on familiar topics. The discussion will be meaningful for both the researches and local people.
